Kimberly Carrillo
Kimberly Carrillo was born in San Diego, California and grew up in a city called Villahermosa, which means "beautiful town”. It is a city in the south of Mexico where I lived with my mom, dad, and two brothers. Growing up there was very beautiful for me. I remember that during vacations, we visited different places in the state like museums, beaches, waterfalls, rivers, archaeological ruins, caves, etc . I have many beautiful memories from my childhood. I always enjoyed participating in cultural and sports events at my schools. When I graduated from high school, I decided to pursue a career in preschool. I had worked part-time at a daycare and always felt a desire to work with children, influenced by my mom who was a preschool teacher for over 40 years. Growing up, I witnessed her dedication and love for her job, which instilled in me the desire to experience the same. So, I began studying that career. While studying for my degree, we were sent to school to provide service and put our acquired knowledge into practice. You had to demonstrate your teaching abilities. In the final year, they assign you a class, and you're in charge of the group for the entire year as a teacher. At the end, they evaluate your performance. I learned a lot and felt well prepared to begin working. In 2015 I graduated, obtaining my bachelor's degree in early education. That same year I got married, and we lived there for a year. I started working and felt very happy.
Towards the end of 2016 my husband and I decided to move to San Diego. In 2017 I started looking for a teaching job, but not having my diploma from this country made it challenging. I decided to read about how I could validate what I had studied. After a few months, I achieved it, and when I finally had my transcripts, I felt unsure because although my education was in teaching, it hadn't been here. I prepared and began reading about the education system in the United States and how to be a good teacher in this country. I applied for jobs and started working, learning, and taking numerous courses.Currently I’ve been married for 8 years, a mother of three children, and I enjoy creating memories with my family, much like my parents did with me. I am a preschool teacher at Silver Strand elementary, managing two groups. With 7 years of experience I feel blessed to have the opportunity to lay the foundations of education, considering it the most crucial stage of life. My goal is for children to perceive my classroom as a welcoming space where they can create, learn, and cherish their childhood as the most valuable time in their lives
